Here at Southern Rhode Island Institute of the Arts (SRIIOTA), we aim to educate its students and the public of the importance and variety of art. Through appreciation, creation, and experimentation of art, we seek to lead students to discover and transmit knowledge and to make lasting contributions to our global society. SRIIOTA combines the elements of a small liberal arts college with the opportunities of a research university, providing its students unique experiences that will enhance their undergraduate experience.

We follow our motto of et surrexit: in viewing your admissions file, we'd like to gain a sense of who you are both artisitically and in the classroom. The items below were carefully chosen by our committee to best capture this.
Fine Arts: Your portfolio should include 15-20 examples of your most recent artwork showcasing your abilities. Your pieces can be created in any medium, in finished or sketched form, and should reflect your creativity, experimentation, and experience. You will be able to upload your portfolio into SlideRoom on the Common App.
Architecture: Architecture applicants are required to submit a PDF (6 A4 pages, and less than 15MB in size) of their own artwork prior to interview. The selection of images should, in part, reflect material you might bring to interview as part of your portfolio.
Dance: Upload a maximum of two videos containing complementary examples of your performance. Applicants are encouraged to upload videos demonstrating their accumulation of experience and skill in their field(s) of dance. All styles of dance are welcome. You will be able to upload your portfolio into SlideRoom on the Common App. Videos should be no larger in size than 4 GB and no longer than 10 minutes.
A recommendation from a high school academic teacher, preferably in English, history, or other language arts coursework (transfer applicants may provide a recommendation from a college professor)
A recommendation from a teacher, conductor, coach, or artistic mentor. In addition to addressing your talent and accomplishment, the recommendation should also discuss the following individual characteristics that indicate potential for success in the field: perseverance, dedication, collegiality, and leadership
1: How has art or music changed your life? Describe what brought you into this field and how it has contributed to your way of thinking. (300 words)
2: Describe a piece of art or music that gives you life. Why does this piece make you feel the way it does? (300 words)
3: How do you plan on contributing to the SRIIA community? We are a university of diverse people and perspectives, and we want to hear what you can contribute. (300 words)
4: At Southern Rhode Island, we value outside of the box thinking. Create your own box with anything, and paint the outside of it with murals representing your personality and how you’ll fit in on campus.
